Video and Audio
The industries of both video and audio experienced huge breakthroughs during the 1990s. Digital cameras were becoming more affordable over the span of the decade. As still images advanced, so did the moving images of television. DVDs first become available in the US in 1997, replacing the old video cassette. The first ever color plasma screen TV was introduced to the consumer market in 1997. Satellite TVs begin to become commonplace in the American household. Then in 1999, the DVR was invented. As CDs increased in popularity, the ownership of personal music libraries became important to most Americans. The market capitalized on this interest with the release of the first ever MP3 in 1998.
