The 1990's a political issue that the country faced was the Cold War. The war was put into a panic and fear of communism taking over as it did throughout Eastern Europe. When Ronald Reagan became president and had to take on a country that was already in a bad situation with being on the defensive in the face of Soviet expansionism. By 1992 the Berlin wall had fallen and the soviet satellite states of Easter Europe were free. The Soviet Union itself was disbanded. On the other hand the United stats and its diplomats went through a struggle that they had to cope with because it created new threats that could jeopardize global stability and taking advantage of new opportunities.

George H.W. Bush
On January 20, 1989, George H. W. Bush became the nation's 41st president. He served until January 20, 1993. During his presidency, President Bush faced many changes. He sent US troops into Panama to overthrow the corrupt regime of General Manuel Noriega, a former CIA asset and, was successful in his target.

Bill Clinton
On January 20th of 1993, Bill Clinton became our 42nd president of the United States, winning by only 43% of the popular vote against George H.W. Bush. Clinton had to deal with the lower Democratic majorities and the rising right wing Republicans when he went for tax reductions for the wealthy, tried eliminating the capital gains tax for corporations, reducing the federal budget, Medicare and federal regulations. People referred to it as the revival of the Reagan Revolution, Bill Clinton became known as the first Baby Boomer president. During Clinton's second term in 1996 a scandal broke out and the whole country was shocked. News went out on January 21 1998 that exposed Clinton having a relationship with a young Women in the White House named Monica Lewinsky, when Clinton was already known to be married. This broke out in a huge scandal now known as the Lewinsky scandal. After the elections Clinton made the effort to lie about never having a relationship with Lewinsky but soon it was proven to be true that he did have a relationship with that woman.

The things that brought him down was the Lewinsky Scandal and the Paula Jones lawsuit. In the Paula Jones law suit President Clinton was sued for sexual harassment. In this lawsuit he did admit to what he lied about early and that was the fact that he was in fact actually had a sexual relationship with the young lady in the white house, Monica Lewinsky.
